
Voter Registration Drive: Over 370,000 New Voters Registered, ELECAM Faces Transparency Questions
ELECAM announces updated voter registration figures ahead of the 2025 elections, but the absence of the national electoral list raises concerns among citizens.
Yaoundé, Cameroon – The Electoral Commission (ELECAM) has reported major strides in its ongoing voter registration campaign.
During the second ordinary session of the electoral board for 2025, ELECAM Chairperson Enow Abrams Egbe revealed that 373,588 new voters were registered between January 2 and June 26, 2025.This brings the provisional national electoral roll to 8,219,210 voters, pending a final cleanup.
Voter Distribution by Region
ELECAM’s latest figures show the following regional voter distribution:
• North, Adamaoua, and East: 29.20%
• Centre: 15.85%
• Far North: 14.52%
• Littoral: 13.65%
• West: 10.21%
• Northwest and Southwest: 7.86%
• South: 3.84%
Biometric Enrollment Equipment
The ELECAM Board Chair also announced the full deployment and training of field staff on new-generation biometric enrollment equipment kits. This move aims to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the voter registration process.
Persistent Challenges on the Ground
In the Littoral region, Regional Delegate Serge Bourdon Otyaa emphasized the importance of proper logistical preparations, not just focusing on enrolling voters.
He also pointed out challenges such as enslavement-like practices that may restrict some citizens from registering.

ELECAM’s recent update has sparked online debates.
Many are questioning why the national electoral list has not yet been published, a key step towards ensuring a transparent and credible electoral process.
